"Get Connected – Virtual Relationships Matter"
Featuring guest speaker, San Antonio Business Journal Projects Coordinator Donna J. Tuttle
Twitter. Facebook. Linked In. MySpace. Social networking is everywhere and changing the way people interact for both business and pleasure. These online networking tools and microblogging channels are powerful ways to meet new people and expand your horizons — but jumping into the conversation can be awkward.
San Antonio Business Journal Projects Coordinator Donna J. Tuttle manages the weekly business newspaper’s social media presence. She also is one of three co-founders of the San Antonio Media, PR and Business Tweetup, a monthly gathering where journalists, editors, public relations professionals and business owners share their social media knowledge. “I don’t claim to be a social media expert,” Donna says. “But I am professional user and have been amazed at the way these tools have changed the newspaper’s interaction with our readers. It has increased my interaction with other professionals exponentially.”
At the WeLead presentation, Donna will:
- Explain how to sign up for Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts.
- Give a live, interactive presentation (real time) of how Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn work. (Bring your laptops and PDAs.)
- Describe the challenges, nuances and pitfalls of interacting through social networking channels.
- Provide you with a list of key social media experts in San Antonio, a list of local events and workshops where you can learn more and some key Web sites and links.
A journalist for more than two decades, Tuttle is a columnist, writer, and special projects editor at the Business Journal. She manages the newspaper’s Twitter and Facebook accounts, as well as its internship program. She is a board member for both the local chapter of the Association of Women in Communications (and recently took the reins of its Twitter account) and Central Catholic High School.
Previously, Tuttle spent several years chronicling the lives of some of the country’s most powerful businesswomen for the Forte Foundation, a consortium of major corporations, influential business schools and nonprofit organizations promoting women leadership in the business world. She’s been a freelancer and stringer for number of regional and national publications and has won numerous awards, including a 2009 American City Business Journal Eagle Award for Excellence in the Newsroom. A graduate of Syracuse University, Tuttle lives in San Antonio with her husband, David, the dean of students at Trinity University, and their four children — who remind her daily that she is not an expert in anything.
